This quote from Roman philosopher Seneca explains well this picture of team rider Lourenço Katzenstein taming a beastly wave at Praia do Norte on Friday 25 February.
Lourenço moved to Nazaré at the start of the season. Since then, he has put countless hours into towing and paddling with our team; chaperoning visiting surfers such as Coco Nogales, Haroldo Ambrosio, Austin Smith-Ford, and Vinicius Martins; and providing back-up safety to various teams who participated in both Nazaré Tow Challenge events that ran in December 2021 (Nic Von Rupp/Pedro Scooby - Commitment Award) and February 2022 (Nic Von Rupp/Lucas Chumbo - 1st Place; Rafael Tapia/Jamie Mitchell - 2nd Place).
Our team unfortunately missing in action led Lourenço to team-up with some of the best big wave surfers in the business - Nic Von Rupp, Lucas Chumbo, Andrew Cotty, and Alemão de Maresias - to tackle this winter season's largest swell (so far).
When it was his turn to grab the rope, Lourenço showed his mettle by surfing one of the largest waves of the season, thus proving that he is among the best freesurfers out there and a worthy contender for next season’s Nazaré Tow Challenge.
